BIOGRAPHY
Rick
Fry is an accomplished illustrator and painter who found his artistic
niche with an eclectic collection of techniques and subject matter
that provides a refreshing view of America's remaining untamed areas.
Armed with the belief that a wildlife and landscape painter must be an observer first and foremost, Rick favors the plein air approach. His goal for each painting is to capture the essence of his subject.

He paints almost exclusively with oils on panel because the broad range of techniques this medium offers gives him the best opportunity to achieve this goal.
Rick is a regular on the art show circuit. The May 3, 2006 issue of the Daily Oklahoman featured him in conjunction with Norman's Annual May Fair. Rick won First Place in Painting at May Fair in 2004 and 2005, and has won numerous other Best in Show and First Place awards for his oils.
Born in Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1949 and now based just a few miles down the road in Norman, Rick loves his home state’s prairies, trees, and rolling hills, especially the open hills of Southwest Oklahoma. He is an amateur ornithologist, and has spent a good portion of his life painting wildlife and its habitats with a particular interest in birds.
A proponent of workshops, Rick has studied with Plein Air Painters of America, John Budicin, Jean LeGassick, Joseph Mendiz, and Ron Rencher. He also teaches plein air painting and plans to begin a series of workshops in Oklahoma’s Wichita Wildlife Refuge beginning Spring 2006.
